Flight procedures for Weston Airport are published in the official AIP manual.
Procedures associated with the airport’s Fly Neighbourly Programme can be found below and are shown in our noise abatement video that is also played within the airport terminal. Furthermore, a Fly Neighbourly information brochure is available for regular distribution to all operators.
All recommended procedures are at the pilot’s discretion consistent with safety. On occasion Air Traffic Control may advise pilots to deviate from these procedures when weather or conflicting air traffic is a concern.
Fly Neighbourly Noise Abatement Procedures:
- Fly Circuits at 1,000 ft
- Please avoid flight over designated noise sensitive areas (see map below)
- During appropriate weather conditions the preferred runway is runway 25
- Propellers generate as much noise as engines; flying with the lowest RPM setting will reduce aircraft noise (AOPA)
- On take off gain altitude as quickly as possible without compromising safety (AOPA)
- Avoid flying over built up areas

Departure Procedures:
Please fly the following departure procedures:
Runway 07
The following are the noise abatement procedures for aircraft departing from Runway 07 to the West:
- When departing from runway 07 taxi to the very beginning of the runway
- Become airborne as soon as possible within the parameters for your aircraft and the conditions on the day
- Climb to 650 ft QNH as soon as possible
- On passing the end of the runway follow the curve of the green area while remaining equidistant from the Weston Park development and the Cooldrinagh residential area
- You should aim to pass the motorway approximately100 metres west of the flyover
- Turn left to join the left downwind for runway 07
- Turn right no later than the end of the reservoir to track westbound while remaining south of the M4 motorway at all times
- Avoid over-flight of the Hewlett Packard facility, which is clearly marked on the noise sensitive areas aerial photograph
- Stop your climb at 1000ft QNH
- If you are on a training flight using the long circuit to beyond Maynooth and back to Weston Airport, keep south of the M4 motorway at all times until you are past Maynooth
- At all times avoid over-flight of Maynooth

Runway 25
The following are the noise abatement procedures for aircraft departing from Runway 25 to the West:
- After departure climb straight ahead to 650ft QNH
- No later than the end of the reservoir make a right turn to track westbound, remaining south of the M4 motorway at all times
- Avoid over-flight of the Hewlett Packard facility as displayed on the noise sensitive areas aerial photograph
- Continue your climb to 1,000 ft QNH
- If you are on a training flight using the long circuit to beyond Maynooth and back to Weston Airport, keep south of the M4 motorway at all times until you are past Maynooth
- Avoid over-flight of Maynooth

Caution: Use of these noise abatement routings is at all times subject to an air traffic control clearance.
Arrival Procedures:
Please fly the following arrival procedures:
Runway 07
The following are the noise abatement procedures for aircraft arriving from the West for a landing on runway 07:
- When outbound to the West, training aircraft using the long circuit to beyond Maynooth and back to Weston Airport should stay well south of the M4 motorway at 1000 ft QNH
- You should then turn right beyond Maynooth for an inward track to Weston Airport that will take you well North of Maynooth
- Your maximum height at this point should be 1500ft QNH
All aircraft approaching Weston Airport from the west have two options, dependent on military activity and local traffic:
-
- Enter the AOR at 1500ft QNH. Track for overhead airport remaining well North of Maynooth and Leixlip. Avoid over-flights of Maynooth and Leixlip.
You will need to be cautious if runway 07 is the active runway as it can be expected that runway 10 will be active at Dublin.
Care should be taken not to enter Dublin CTR on this rejoin
- Maintain the 1500ft QNH until through the overhead and descend to 1000ft QNH on the right downwind for Runway 07
-
- Enter the AOR at 1500ft QNH. Track towards the Intel facility while maintaining 1500ft QNH
- Upon passing Intel, join directly for left downwind of runway 07 and descend to 1000ft on left downwind
- Avoid direct over-flight of Leixlip and the Hewlett Packard facility
Runway 25
The following are the noise abatement procedures for aircraft arriving from the West for a landing on runway 25:
- Enter the AOR at 1500ft QNH. Track for overhead the airport remaining well north of Maynooth and Leixlip
- Maintain 1500ft until through the overhead and descent to 1000ft QNH on the left downwind for Runway 25
Caution: Use of these noise abatement routings is at all times subject to an air traffic control clearance.
Safety Comes First
The fly neighbourly procedures are not intended to supersede the responsibility of the pilot for compliance with all IAA regulations and operating parameters of their Aircraft’s Operations Manual.
- Operators requiring engine maintenance run-ups should seek clearance from Air Traffic Control.
- All on field helicopter training requires ATC clearance.
- We ask all helicopter pilots and trainee pilots to view the Helicopter Association International (HAI) noise abatement training DVD.
- Fixed wing aircraft pilots and trainees should follow A.O.P.A’s "noise awareness steps" and recommendations on their Flying Friendly video, while executive jet operators might consider reading the NBAA noise abatement programme. Details on these and other on-line resources are listed below.
Thank you for your cooperation and have a safe flight.
If you have any questions please contact airport management, or a member of the airport’s noise committee.
