Weston Executive Airport has developed a Fly Neighbourly Programme as part of the Airport’s Environmental Management System and in line with the airport’s environmental policy. The objective of our Fly Neighbourly Programme is to minimise the impact of aircraft operations on surrounding communities.
The overriding philosophy and policy that underpins the Fly Neighbourly Programme is that:
Subject to safe operations and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, Weston Executive Airport is committed to doing all it can to minimise the noise impact of its operations on nearby communities and to continue to seek ways to improve its performance in this regard.
Weston Airport has already taken a number of steps to reduce noise. These include:
- increasing the circuit height from 800 ft. to 1,000 ft.
- introducing new take off and landing procedures
- relocating onsite helicopter training
- the building of earth banks as noise barriers
Noise monitoring equipment has been purchased and noise monitoring is taking place. Furthermore, the airport terminal, hangers, associated offices, and ancillary services have been moved further away from the nearby golf club and housing estate at Weston Park.
The Fly Neighbourly Programme consists of:
- The formulation of a voluntary Fly Neighbourly Policy
- A voluntary pledges system, whereby all operators will be asked to sign a pledge certificate indicating that they will
participate in the Airport’s voluntary Fly Neighbourly Programme
- Fly Neighbourly Procedures
- Designated Noise Sensitive Areas
- Weston Executive Airport’s Noise Abatement Video
- Noise Complaints telephone Hotline (1800 300 394) and Noise Complaints Form
- Communication and Education - all helicopter operators will be asked to go through the Helicopter Association
Internationals Noise Abatement Training Programme
- All operators will be asked to familiarise themselves with the airport’s noise abatement procedures and the guidelines and procedures from the relevant aviation organisations listed as "On-Line Noise Abatement Resources" on this website
- The establishment of a Noise Committee
- Monitoring and Reporting on the airport’s website
- A plan to reposition the existing runway 400m to the west, which if approved will result in aircraft being higher over housing
to the east on take off and landing. Our study shows that the consequential reduction in noise will be massive 4.95dB
